About World Homeless Day

The concept of ‘World Homeless Day’ emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world. The Inaugural World Homeless Day was marked on October 10, 2010. This year’s campaign marks 15 years of advocacy, and since its founding, World Homeless Day has been observed on every continent (except Antarctica), in over 100 countries.

This international day serves as a platform to advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness. World Homeless Day also aims to raise awareness about the needs of people who currently experience homelessness and promote work in local communities to alleviate suffering and prevent death.

Recognizing World Homeless Day at Stewpot’s Opportunity Center

On October 10, 2023, history was made as Stewpot's Opportunity Center hosted the Inaugural World Homeless Day Community Fair. Thanks to generous sponsors and community partners, we were able to provide resources, food, entertainment and most importantly, a sense of community to more than 250 unsheltered or unstably housed persons in the city.

Our 2024 theme was "We'll Go Hard Until They Can Go Home". Our mission has not changed, only intensified as we hope to draw attention to the needs of people who experience homelessness locally. This event offered an opportunity for the community to get involved in solution-based discussions and efforts centered around reducing the barriers faced by those who are unsheltered, while truly connecting with this population in an environment that belongs to them. Stay tuned for more information on World Homeless Day 2025!
